Inculcating Self Reliance
The greatest gift one can give their child is the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence. With this objective, MITCON International School organized a life skills activity for the Primary wing on 28 April 2021.
As a part of psychosocial competencies, learning life skills are as important as learning about critical thinking, effective communication and empathizing with others etc. We at MIS always believe that teaching simple life skills to children also contribute in their holistic development of emotional awareness and empathy quotient.
To make our students aware of day to day chores and to teach them responsibility in the household work, grades 1 to 3 students were taught to fold the clothes. They were first taught to fold a handkerchief. Then our youngsters learnt to fold their own clothes like shirt, T-shirt, trousers, shorts, frock etc. We are sure that henceforth the impetus to rearrange their wardrobes neatly and to share mummy’s load of laundry will surely draw smiles on the young ones and their parents.
The students of grade 4 to 9 were involved in learning basic stitching like straight stitch, back stitch and blanket stitch with the theme ‘Thread in the Needle’. It was followed by the hemming of a handkerchief. This activity will surely help make our students a seamstress. We are sure a slight tear or a broken button will be mended with ease even by those who’ve held the needle and thread for the first time today.
