Mitcon celebrates World Bicycle Day.

The humble bicycle has the potential to save the planet. So, celebrate the World Bicycle Day.

It has been said that when the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems, when hope hardly seems worth having, mount a bicycle and go out for a spin down the road, without thought of anything but the ride you are taking.

The bicycle is a simple and affordable mode of transportation owing to its longevity and adaptability. The vehicle has been in use since times immemorial and it also serves as a clean and eco-friendly device.

Fostering environmental stewardship and health, Mitcon celebrated it on 3 June 2021 as World Bicycle Day.

To sensitize the Mitconites and inculcate the need and advantage of using bicycles more often as a sustainable means of transportation, various activities were conducted on 03.06.21.

The objective was to promote bicycle as the global cycling literacy. Contemporary society and the future citizens should be able to appreciate bicycle not just as a means of active mobility or of recreation but also as a readily available tool for living healthy, productive lives in this automobile complemented world. Due to the ongoing Covid-19, public gatherings and rallies had restrictions, hence to incorporate this idea amongst our younger generation in a fun filled way this event was conducted. This also incorporated integrating art, craft and imagination, critical thinking in their mode of learning.

To rise above the clutter, a symbol or a logo is the fastest communication known to man, grades 3, 4 and 5 created a logo for the theme. Now that the children absorbed the importance of bike, they were also enlightened on the safety rules for riding a bike on the road by watching videos on how to ensure safety based on which grade 6 & 7 made a poster of the Safety rules. Students of grade 8 & 9 learnt about the evolution of the bicycle and the basic anatomy of bike. They showcased their creativity by designing model and adding a new feature to the bike.

The importance of cycling was well grasped and understood by our students by performing these various activities. Celebrating of this special day kindled the passion of cycling among all. The moto was, keep riding and keep safe.
